"Superbad"

You know, everyone these days like to throw around the phrase, “From the producers who brought you ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ and ‘Wedding Crashers’” a lot. It’s like some seal of comedic approval. For me, it’s the equivalent to “From the producers who brought you ‘Pootie Tang’ and ‘Tomcats’”.

I must give credit to Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse for acting the best they can on such a lame plot of a teen flick. It’s close to being the first segment of the House Party franchise. Granted, in the midst of all the vulgarity and phallic notebook scribbles, at least the boys were stuck with slightly higher morals and responsibility at the end that could have been lost easily.

Plus, it has a more realistic post-high-school progression between Seth and Evan than between Enid and Rebecca in Ghost World.

Two stars out of five
